Save a Mexican Mutt
Save A Mexican Mutt, or SAMM, is a dog rescue and adoption organization in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Dogs are rescued from the streets, local kill shelters and pounds where they've suffered from neglect, abuse, starvation and illness. They are placed in loving foster homes, fully vetted, and brought back to good health.
Once they are completely healthy, these lucky dogs are then placed for adoption on our website and multiple networking websites. Some SAMM dogs are adopted locally in Mexico, but most are adopted in the U.S. and Canada. Some are transferred to other rescue organizations or 'no kill' shelters in the U.S. that help find them excellent homes.
All SAMM dogs are sterilized, temperament tested, given all mandatory vaccinations, and if they are being transported are examined by a veterinarian and receive a certificate of health within three days of their transport to the U.S. from Mexico.
To find out more about why we do what we do read "Articles About SAMM".

Why adopt a rescue dog from Mexico?
Suffering is defined by Webster's Dictionary as 'to endure death, pain, or distress.'
Suffering is universal; it knows no boundaries.
So, for those compassionate individuals who cannot close their eyes to the suffering of companion animals, adopting a dog from a foreign country is another option, an individual choice, and a very personal decision.
We may not be able to save them all but for those we do rescue and commit to their suffering STOPS.
Blackjack was rescued after being hit by a car. He had an initial surgery to repair his pelvis and reset his hind leg. Unfortunately, he never regained use of the leg and it atrophied. A second surgery was performed to removed the leg. So, Jack is a tripod. He actually gets around better now. See his video!
Jack is a typical Border Collie - extremely intelligent and inquisitive. However, he is not as high energy as a full BC and is a bit smaller. He likes to go on walks but tires fairly quickly. He wants to inspect everything you are doing, he wants to herd and protect his flock/people, he does not respond to 'tone of voice' correction. He does respond extremely well to food based rewards. Jack loves to play with a tennis ball and will retrieve or will play alone with a ball, Kong, or stuffed toy. He is fine with older, respectful children. He is currently in foster with 11 other dogs. Jack is also good with cats.
Blackjack is completely housebroken, crate trained, neutered, fully vaccinated, and dewormed. We estimate Jack to be about 2 1/2 years old.
This dog is currently in foster in Mexico and will be until foster/adoption and transport arrangements can be made to Texas.
